The Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC), California’s governmental ethics and campaign disclosure agency, today announced the appointment of David Bainbridge as the Commission’s General Counsel.

Bainbridge has been the Assistant Chief of the FPPC Enforcement Division for the past three years and has been with the Enforcement Division for more than six years. In this role, he has overseen many of the Division’s top cases and was instrumental in helping develop policies and procedures including the Streamline program, which facilitates a quick resolution to many of the more minor violations of the Political Reform Act.

“I’m extremely pleased to announce Dave’s appointment to this important role,” said Commission Chair Alice Germond. “Dave’s extensive experience in political and campaign law, his knowledge of the Act and his demonstrated commitment to fair and transparent practices will help guide the Commission to further the interests of Californians.”

Prior to working at the FPPC, he served as staff counsel at the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Governor’s Legal Affairs Office. Before moving to the public sector, Bainbridge was an associate attorney at a private firm practicing business and real estate litigation and transactional law. Dave received a law degree from University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law with a certificate in governmental affairs. He received an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of California, Davis.

Bainbridge will transition into his new role effective October 1, 2018.
